Many department and retails stores offer price adjustments. A price adjustment is given when you purchase an item for one price and then within a specified time frame the same item is reduced in price. You can receive the price adjustment when you return to the store with the receipt during the period that same item is on sale. Basically, you get a refund for the amount that you paid over the current sale price.
For example, you purchase a pair of boots at Macy's for the regular price of $75.00 on Tuesday. Macy's has a one day sale that same week on Saturday, offering the same boots for $60. You can go back to the store with your receipt (you do not need the item) and go to the register in the shoe department to ask for a price adjustment which in this example would be $15.
Price adjustments are not for the faint of heart. You have to be a savvy and diligent shopper to take advantage of this money saving technique. You have to read sales circulars or receive email updates for the store. But, if you are smart about it, you can maximize your savings with coupons during one day sale events.
Macy's one day sales usually exclude all coupons. BUT, if you go shopping before the one day sale (not on the preview day)you can use your coupons. If the item you purchased is reduced for the one day sale, you can go in on the sale day for the price adjustment on that item because the adjustment is on the price of the item before the coupon. So you can double your savings. I have done this several times. One time, I received $35 back in adjustments many items on the one day sale day.
Here is a list of some stores that offer price adjustments, but go to the sites for these stores for the complete information and rules:
- Within 10 days with if the item you purchased goes on sale you can receive the adjustment with your original receipt during the period the item is on sale.
- If regular-price merchandise goes on sale within two weeks of your original purchase date, they will give you the price difference. No price adjustments will be made on purchases of already reduced merchandise that has received additional markdowns.
