Many of the things I have received for free was because I asked for them. You will be surprised at how you can get free things or discounts just by asking.

Here is a travel tip:

When you check-in to a hotel, if there is someone before you,observe their check-in. See if they receive any free goodies. Sometimes if there is a problem or if they are a frequent guest, the front desk will offer coupons for free beverages at the hotel bar or percentage off at the the hotel restaurant. BUT if you are not lucky enough to over hear other guests as they check-in, just ask. Ask as they are preparing your keys, simply ask, "Do you have any coupons for free drinks or free breakfast." If you ask, they will more than likely provide you with one or two freebies. Believe me all major hotels three stars and above offer something. They keep these coupons on hand for when there are customer complaints. Just ask - and see what you get.

Drink free beverages at fast food restaurants:

Many fast food restaurants have do-it-yourself soft drink machines. They hand you a cup if you are dining-in to prepare your own beverage. Why pay for a cup? Ask for a courtesy cup for water. Courtesy cups are about a 4 oz. size, but who cares - it is all you can drink - just keep refilling it. At a popular sandwich and bakery restaurant, they actually leave plastic cups out near the food pick-up area or at the register. Just grab one and drink up. If these restaurants were making a significant profit on soft drinks - they would not allow it to be all you can drink. Also - if a restaurant offers FREE REFILLS - do not order the LARGE CUP. Pay for small cup and just get the free refills. No need to pay for the extra size if the refills are free.
