Find Today's Daily Deal on Your City's Best Things To Do at Groupon.com!

Women across the country now have a sparkling opportunity to show their support for the fight against breast cancer.

Swarovski will donate 10 percent of sales of its new collection of fashion accessories to a yoga program for survivors of the disease. The classes address the women's specific needs and physical restrictions, while also providing them the opportunity to bond with other women who have had similar experiences.

Called The Libby Ross Foundation's Yoga Program for Breast Cancer Survivors, it's offered free and will be supported in part by the breast cancer awareness collection from Swarovski, the iconic fashion jewelry designer.

www.swarovski.com
The collection includes the pink Erika pendant, the pink Power bag, the pink Glam car holder, and a pink heart-shaped brooch. All the pink products will be available at the designer's 205 boutiques, authorized Swarovski retailers and on www.swarovski.com.

According to the American Cancer Society, a woman's chance of developing invasive breast cancer is about 1 in 8, and more than 192,000 new cases of the disease are expected to be diagnosed this year. Initiatives similar to the yoga program can help survivors physically and psychologically, and can be an important key to leading happier, healthier lives.

Buying Diamonds With Confidence: Tips From The Experts

BUYING DIAMONDS WITH CONFIDENCE

People mark special events with sentimental gifts of jewelry. While weddings reign as the biggest diamond event, there are many small yet glorious celebrations that are honored with beautiful sparklies, too, such as new jobs, anniversaries, graduations, births…the list, happily, is endless.

So how do people learn about diamonds so they can buy, own and enjoy them with confidence? The nonprofit Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the world's foremost authority on gems and jewelry and the creator of the famous "Four Cs" of diamonds, offers these five tips:

Choose a qualified jeweler. Select a jeweler as you would a doctor, a lawyer or any professional: Ask around. Find someone who is a trained gemologist, a GIA Graduate Gemologist or GIA Accredited Jewelry Professional, and is affiliated with a professional jewelry association.

Research. GIA's Web site at www.gia.edu offers in-depth information on diamonds, pearls and other gemstones. GIA even built a special www.gia4cs.gia.edu Web site on the Four Cs. Knowing the Four Cs helps you speak the language of diamonds and communicate with jewelers.

Learn the "Four Cs." All diamonds are rare and no two diamonds are alike. A diamond's quality and rarity are determined by its unique combination of characteristics of Carat weight, Clarity, Color and Cut. The International Diamond Grading System, used around the world since its invention by GIA in the 1950s, is based on the Four Cs.

• Carat: Diamonds are weighed in metric carats. Two carats weigh about the same as a small paper clip. A carat is divided into 100 "points," so a diamond of 50 points weighs 0.50 carats.

• Clarity: Nearly all diamonds contain unique clarity characteristics. Flawless diamonds are exceptional and costly. Most inclusions are invisible unless magnified.

• Color: Colorless diamonds are extremely uncommon. Most diamonds have a slight yellow or brown tint. GIA uses letters to represent colors, beginning with D (colorless) and ending at Z (light yellow or brown). "Fancy colored diamonds" come in every color imaginable, are also very unusual and have their own GIA color-grading system.

• Cut: While diamonds come in different shapes, such as round, pear or marquise, the term "cut" refers to proportion. The well-cut, balanced diamond has unbridled brilliance, sparkle and fire.

Get an independent diamond grading report. A diamond grading report tells you the exact gemological quality of your diamond. Is it a natural diamond? Is it a synthetic diamond? Has it been treated and how? What are its quality ratings according to the Four Cs?

Have your diamond appraised and insured. A diamond grading report describes the precise gemological quality of your diamond while an appraiser puts a monetary value to the stone. You can laser inscribe a personal message or the diamond's unique GIA grading report number on the diamond's girdle.

Like true love, a diamond's light and brilliance won't fade with time. To learn more about diamonds, visit GIA's Web site at www.gia.edu or GIA's Four Cs Web site at www.gia4cs.gia.edu.

Save on Gas - Plan Your Errands Carefully!

Find Today's Daily Deal on Your City's Best Things To Do at Groupon.com!

Now that gas is nearly $4.00 for regular - it is time to be smart about your car trips. I have been carefully planning every place I go in my car. Before you leave your home, you need to think about what you need and where you need to go to get it.

First, write out a list of what you need to purchase. Second, think about the closest shopping center you can go to that will have every thing you need. Strip malls usually have a wide selection of retail stores to shop at. Identify strip malls that have a grocery store, hardware, clothing, discounts, etc. Start shopping at locations where you need to make only one stop to get all that you need.

Shop at your nearest mall. Everyone may have a favorite mall but that mall may be further away than the closest. Figure out how you can get what you need from one location or two nearby areas. To further save on gas, order what you need online.

During the Christmas holiday season I ordered an MP3 player from www.walmart.com.I ordered one week before Christmas day - it was 6:45pm on a Tuesday. Initially, Walmart was promising shipment by December 24. To my surprise I received my package 24 hours later! Walmart has great delivery!

Haggling for the Perfect Price on Diamonds at Jewelry Exchanges

Find Today's Daily Deal on Your City's Best Things To Do at Groupon.com!

If you go to any of the chain jewelry stores the prices are set. If you see a diamond pendant, the price is surely set. Other than any specials or coupons they are curretly offering, the price is the price. No questions! But there is no fun in that.

A few years ago, I stopped into a local jewelry exchange and now I am hooked. You can find a jewelry exchange in most major metropolitan areas. Typically, you walk in and there are four or five counters, possibly with different company names above them. So you might have several independent jewelers at a given exchange. What is so unique about these jewelry stores is that there are virtually no prices on the merchandise. If you ask about a certain piece of jewelry - say a pair of diamond studs- they remove them from the case and weigh them. They tell you the price based on the weight of the piece and some other factors, I have yet to figure that out. But because the prices are not listed on the merchandise - this leaves you wide open to haggle the price - I love a good haggle!

Also, many of the jewelers can customize your purchase. They can give you the size diamond you want and any other specifications. But the best part is the haggling. They often will give you a price that can be adjusted in hopes that the would be buyer will accept the price given and then they can make a few extra bucks. So if they say a diamond heart pendant is $330 - ask if they would accept $280. You will be pleasantly surprised if they say yes! And they want to make the sale so you will be able to negotiate until you are both satisfied!

Find a local jewelry exchange and try your luck at haggling for diamonds! If find a jewelry exchange you like, ask if they have a mailing lists. The one that I go to offers 50% prices and you can really get a good steal.
