Gift cards can be a convenient way to give a gift or to shop, if you know how to navigate the ins and outs. Here are some tips on how to get the most from a gift card:

• Know the type of card you are using. There are two kinds of gift cards: retail cards and network-branded cards. Retail gift cards can be used at specific stores or chains of stores while network-branded cards--such as those issued by MasterCard, American Express and others--can be used at any merchant that accepts that brand of card.

Does the IRS Owe You Money?

Who couldn’t use a little extra cash this summer! The IRS may have some money for you.

If you have not filed a prior year tax return and are due a refund, you should consider filing the return to claim that refund. If you are missing a refund for a previously filed tax return, you should contact the IRS to check the status of your refund and confirm your current address.

Unclaimed Refunds

Some people may have had taxes withheld from their wages but were not required to file a tax return because they had too little income. Others may not have had any tax withheld but would be eligible for the refundable Earned Income Tax Credit.
To collect this money a return must be filed with the IRS no later than three years from the due date of the return. If no return is filed to claim the refund within three years, the money becomes the property of the U.S. Treasury.
There is no penalty assessed by the IRS for filing a late return qualifying for a refund.

Current and prior year tax forms and instructions are available on the Forms and Publications web page of IRS.gov or by calling 800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676).
Information about the Earned Income Tax Credit and how to claim it is also available on IRS.gov.

Undeliverable Refunds
Were you expecting a refund check but didn't get it?
Refund checks are mailed to your last known address. Checks are returned to the IRS if you move without notifying the IRS or the U.S. Postal Service.
You may be able to update your address with the IRS on the “Where’s My Refund?” feature available on IRS.gov. You will be prompted to provide an updated address if there is an undeliverable check outstanding within the last 12 months.
You can also ensure the IRS has your correct address by filing Form 8822, Change of Address, which is available on IRS.gov or can be ordered by calling 800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676).



If you do not have access to the Internet and think you may be missing a refund, you should first check your records or contact your tax preparer. If your refund information appears correct, call the IRS toll-free assistance line at 800-829-1040 to check the status of your refund and confirm your address.

A QUICK TIP FOR SAVING MONEY

I recently received a large box in the mail that was filled with gently-used gift tissue paper. The paper was nicely folded so it will be great to use in a gift shopping bag so it will be great to use in a gift shopping bag. It's just in time - I have gift to prepare this week!

Before you discard the box and stuffing from your next mail order, make sure there is nothing in it that can be reused properly.

Also sometimes brand new shoes come with nice tissue paper stuff inside the shoe. Trying saving that for the same purpose. It will save u some money

Pay for Auto Repairs in 90 Days - Interest Free

I needed to replace the tires on my car back in December. The tires I use for my vehicle are so-called high performance tires. The dealer wanted $212 a tire plus alignment and balancing. It would have run about $1200.

A few years back I had an older car that I would have serviced at a local Firestone. I was approved for the store credit card which offers 90 day interest free payments. I called my local Firestone to compare pricing for the tires my dealer service center offered. The tires were quoted at $5 more. However, knowing they have a price match guarantee program, I asked if they would match my dealer's price of $212 per tire and they agreed to do just that. I also had coupon for a reduced price on the wheel alignment.

In the end, I save myself about $200, plus using the Firestone credit card I was able to pay for my tires in full interest free in 90 days. At the dealer, I would have needed to pay cash or use a regular credit card and then pay it off immediately so not to incur an additional expense.

If your local auto service center offers a similar deal it is the best way to spread your auto repair expense over the course of 90 days.

If you want to take advantage of a price match, get your regular service center to give you a printed service price quote so you can bring it to another place to match it. Before you ask for the match ask your local chain service center to give you its price first and then if it is higher ask them to match the lower price you found.

Dealers charge in exhorbitant amount of money for labor. You can save money going to a reputable chain auto service center, that offers 90 day or more free interest credit cards, coupons and price match.
