Get Discounts with Movie Theater Loyalty Programs

I don't know about you, but I still like to see big budget films at the theater. But if you haven't notices it can be quite costly for movie tickets and refreshments. A few years back, I signed up for the AMC theater Movie Watchers card.- which is their exclusive loyalty program. You can signup free online and you receive a swipeable plastic card in the mail.

There are certain days of the week that you get small free popcorn with the purchase of each ticket. Recently, I went on a Saturday and when my card was swiped, it generated two coupons for $1 Reeses cups with another concession purchase (Reeses are normally $3-4.00 each at the theater). There is no limit on how many coupons can be used at a time. It is actually a great way to save a few bucks at the concession stand. The discounts are generated when you purchase tickets and they discount is printed on separate ticket stubs. FYI - no offers will come in the mail. Although if you sign-up for the Movie Watcher e-newsletter, coupons are included sometimes. The discounts have been decent this year - money off combos or free upgrades on combos.

My advice - take the time to sign-up for theater rewards cards. And keep the card in your wallet, so you can use it each time you go to theater.

AAA members can save lots of money buy pre-purchasing movie tickets at a AAA travel store. Years ago, you would have to mail-in orders for movie tickets, now many AAA travel stores sell them on the spot. Most of the tickets are under $7.00 - which is good. The tickets at my local movie theater are now $10 for adults. Most discounted tickets can't be used in the first 10 days a movie is showing. So if you like to see movies during the premiere week ,this tip is not for you. Although some movie theater chains offer special ticket pricing in advance that CAN be used during the first week a movie is out.
