Haggling for the Perfect Price on Diamonds at Jewelry Exchanges

Find Today's Daily Deal on Your City's Best Things To Do at Groupon.com!

If you go to any of the chain jewelry stores the prices are set. If you see a diamond pendant, the price is surely set. Other than any specials or coupons they are curretly offering, the price is the price. No questions! But there is no fun in that.

A few years ago, I stopped into a local jewelry exchange and now I am hooked. You can find a jewelry exchange in most major metropolitan areas. Typically, you walk in and there are four or five counters, possibly with different company names above them. So you might have several independent jewelers at a given exchange. What is so unique about these jewelry stores is that there are virtually no prices on the merchandise. If you ask about a certain piece of jewelry - say a pair of diamond studs- they remove them from the case and weigh them. They tell you the price based on the weight of the piece and some other factors, I have yet to figure that out. But because the prices are not listed on the merchandise - this leaves you wide open to haggle the price - I love a good haggle!

Also, many of the jewelers can customize your purchase. They can give you the size diamond you want and any other specifications. But the best part is the haggling. They often will give you a price that can be adjusted in hopes that the would be buyer will accept the price given and then they can make a few extra bucks. So if they say a diamond heart pendant is $330 - ask if they would accept $280. You will be pleasantly surprised if they say yes! And they want to make the sale so you will be able to negotiate until you are both satisfied!

Find a local jewelry exchange and try your luck at haggling for diamonds! If find a jewelry exchange you like, ask if they have a mailing lists. The one that I go to offers 50% prices and you can really get a good steal.
